I've been thinking a lot about the corporation system that will be coming to dust soon, and how its going to change the way the game is played by people who are genuinely interested in an fps version of eve. Obviously one of the most important things is how new players will be able to team up with more experienced people and actually still be able to make a difference.
But it seems to me that corporations won't have any reason to take on new players, however specialized, because each match has a player cap right now. Even if a new player puts all his skill points into a specialization (AI, AV, logi, ect) He will still only be useful when that specialization is called upon, and a noticeably weaker member of the team when it is not.
Because the game has player caps in each match the only people a corporation would want to take along on an important battle would be their highest skilled, "jack of all trades" players who will be uniformly useful. If you would like an example look at all the "insert OP item" threads on the forum and the usual response is to switch to a setup that counters it, but if you don't have the sp you can't adapt to changes on the battlefield and are going to get torn apart and bring down your team.
CCP needs to take a look at the way corp v corp battles will be fought, otherwise new players who join will be left out of the amazing experience of eve/dust comradeship and organization and be stuck playing random matches.

JoshuaEvil666 wrote:new players wont be new players for long if they liek the game just ike in eve a newbie in a rifter with a web or scramb is very usefull with teamwork a lower skilled player will not damage the team all that much
But what i mean is that the rifter player doesn't hold other peopel back in any way (his team can always abandon him and move on if he's going to be a problem) well a new player in a small fight is taking the slot from someone who can do more damage.
Also, i don't mean new as in first few games, but rather only has enough sp to be useful if they specialize (This is what makes it possible for newer people to help in eve, and should be how it works in dust) |

Those are like 1v1 frig fights outside of a station though. What makes eve amazing are the other people who you play with and the goals you fight towards (or fight to defend) Every player should have the chance to experience it.
I see the point of a blitzkrieg approach, and as long as it is possible to overwhelm your enemy with pure numbers my concerns will be unfounded. But if the defensive side of a fight is able to have a small group of commandos fight all of its battles there will be an issue. |
